CONTRIBUTE
Submissions for Issue 2 of the Newspaper are currently open. The theme for this issue is ‘THE RISE AND FALL OF EMPIRES’.
Submissions for the Recordings are open all year-round.
Article pitches should be concise & concept driven, detailing the publication section in mind (XYZ, XXZ or XXX), as well as any relevant additional material such as a moodboard of images for supplementary photographic elements / illustrations for the piece.
Recording pitches should contain a similarly concise pitch along with drafted scripts, written for the intention of being spoken, as well as supplementary elements for the piece i.e. sounds / music / narration in mind.
All submissions can be sent to the Agapius email located at the bottom of the webpage, with the subject (‘FIRST’ // SUBMISSION), ‘FIRST’ being the name of the writer. We aim to reply to every submission within 1 working week.
We look forward to reading your stories,

NEWSPAPER
The newspaper, released in print every quarter, aims to navigate complex socio-political affairs and give a platform to the stories that emerge and shape contemporary culture and people. Each issue presents a shifting holistic narrative with well-researched and collaborative writing, reflected by an unorthodox three-part episodic style that plays loosely on connected thematic concepts.
Each section is curated as their own unique categories with different writing styles and lengths. There are two XYZ articles, three XXZ articles and five XXX articles per issue.
XYZ
3500 - 4000 words
Formal essayist journalistic pieces that form the thematic basis for the rest of the issue, particularly XXZ. These pieces are thoroughly researched and balanced, playing off each other in juxtaposition and setting the tone for re-emerging or contradicting concepts.
XXZ
2500 - 3000 words
Niche, gonzo-journalistic pieces that carry the thematic elements addressed in XYZ, and shift the focus to individual experiences, personal outlook and unexplored stories. These pieces are less about research and formality; placing more emphasis on sincerity, honesty and creative styles of writing as a means to inform. This section allows for more photo-journalistic pieces and social studies; typically complimented by investigative photography tailored for each article.
XXX
1000 - 2000 words
Smaller expressive pieces that serve as a wider derivation from the curated theme, exploring new concepts across contemporary arts and culture. From notes on fashion and raw materials, architecture and sustainability, body politics and performance, visual art mediums and film-making; XXX welcomes a diverse mix of eclectic voices and op-ed odysseys from outlier thinkers. Illustrations and textile elements from a resident artist per issue compliment the articles of this section.
RECORDINGS
750 - 3000 words
The Recordings are a form of stylised ‘audio essays’ that fall on the fringes outside the narrative structure of the Newspaper but nevertheless are self-contained stories, inspired by the collective works of Sonic Faction: Audio Essay as Medium and Method and K-Punk. A mixture of spoken reading of the material, atmospheric sounds and music, clips of various speakers and subjects; the Recordings are a developing paradigm on documentary writing and media.
